Why does senior oral care matters?

As adults age and develop cognitive issues, one of the first living skills they abandon is daily preventive oral care. As health issues related to inadequate oral care are well documented this expanding risk is being recognized as a potential crisis for seniors.

The percentage of older adults with their own teeth will only increase along with the potential for increased health issues including dry mouth, one of the biggest contributors to decay, periodontal disease that has been linked to heart health, and untreated decay leading to aspirational pneumonia.

Since dental health and whole body health are directly connected, regular preventive care and professional cleanings are vital to our seniors’ health.

As we age dexterity and mobility limitations become evident. What used to be easy, grasping your toothbrush and brushing your teeth, has now become a challenge.

In the past dental professionals and seniors have developed their own tools to help them grip their toothbrush from cutting a tennis ball to wrapping toothbrush handles with cloth and tape. Those DIY fixes couldn’t be cleaned properly, making a sturdy, cleanable tool necessary…

Introducing the GripEazy Toothbrush Aids.

GripEazy Toothbrush Aids

The GripEazy Toothbrush Aids were developed to assist those struggling with hand dexterity and arm mobility limitations. Designed with sturdy, lightweight foam, they fit a standard toothbrush handle, expanding the grip and/or extending the reach and range of motion.

"When I handed her the new OraBrite® expander on the toothbrush, it was the first time she could hold her toothbrush with all 5 fingers. The OraBrite Toothbrush expanders and extenders are not for everyone, but for those that need help, it means everything. It means independence."

Kimberly Schneider, MS, RDH, Dental Hygiene Educator
"I am excited to share these tools with my students so they have them as they begin their clinical rotations, and eventually when they go into practice. Having knowledge of products like this will allow students to be more effective in practice."
